I had to savemyself first.

Emily Horstman · Registered Dietitian · Upstate New York

I didn’t set out to become a longevity coach. I became one because I had to.

In my early 30s, during what should have been one of life’s most joyful chapters—new motherhood—I found myself in daily pain, physically dependent on others, and terrified of losing my independence permanently. Multiple musculoskeletal injuries left me unable to do basic tasks for myself. A subsequent injury cost me 10% of the strength in my dominant arm. I was watching my body fail me in real time, and I felt completely powerless.

But here’s what changed everything: I realized I wasn’t actually powerless. Drawing on my 15 years as a holistic dietitian, I started making small, intentional shifts. How I moved. What I ate. How I slept. How I managed stress. These weren’t dramatic overhauls—they were sustainable changes that fit into my messy, real life with two young kids, sleepless nights, and all the chaos that comes with it.

And slowly, I didn’t just get back to baseline. I felt better than I had in years. Stronger. Clearer. More energized. More like myself than I’d felt since my twenties.

That experience fundamentally changed me. It showed me that the narrative we’re sold about aging—that decline is inevitable, that feeling “off” is just part of getting older—is incomplete at best and damaging at worst. We have so much more control than we’ve been led to believe.

The work I do now

Today, I help adults in their 30s, 40s, and 50s take back control of their aging process before it’s too late. Not through quick fixes or trendy protocols, but through evidence-based lifestyle changes that actually stick.

My approach centers on a truth I’ve seen proven again and again: you already know what your body needs. My job isn’t to tell you what to do—it’s to help you trust that inner knowledge, cut through the overwhelming noise of conflicting health advice, and build sustainable habits that fit your actual life.

I work with people who are starting to notice the changes. The energy dips. The brain fog. The physical shifts that weren’t there before. The scary realization that what worked in your twenties doesn’t work anymore. These changes often begin in our 30s, but here’s what most people don’t realize: you have tremendous power to influence what happens next.

Through personalized coaching, we systematically address every aspect of your health span—nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management, and hormone optimization. We bridge the gap between your healthcare providers and your daily life. We transform your kitchen, revolutionize how you shop and eat, and create strategies that work with your real life, including travel, dining out, and family dynamics.

Why this matters so much to me

When someone starts feeling their best, it ripples outward. Their families notice. Their communities benefit. They become the parent who has energy to play, the partner who’s fully present, the professional who brings their best self to work. Eventually, they become the grandparent who takes the kids on adventures, who scuba dives at 70, who hosts dinner for everyone at 85.

That’s not a fantasy. That’s what’s possible when you start making different choices now.

My own journey through injury and recovery didn’t just teach me about resilience—it showed me the profound difference that expert guidance and human connection make. I couldn’t have done it alone, and you don’t have to either. That’s exactly why I’m so effective at helping others: I’ve personally tried every strategy, navigated countless obstacles, and overcome challenging habits firsthand. When I guide you through a difficult change or help you troubleshoot a setback, I’m drawing from lived experience, not just textbook knowledge.

Beyond the credentials

Yes, I’m a holistic dietitian with 15 years of experience. Yes, I bring together expertise from healthcare, private practice, and business. But what makes my approach unique isn’t just professional training—it’s the combination of evidence-based knowledge and hard-won personal insight.

I live in upstate New York with my husband, two young kids, and whatever pets my son manages to talk me into. When I’m not working, you’ll find me reading, experimenting in the kitchen, hitting the gym, or exploring the outdoors with my family. I practice what I preach not because I’m perfect, but because I know firsthand that these habits are what make life feel vibrant and sustainable.

The bigger mission

While one-on-one coaching forms the foundation of my practice, the mission extends further. Through speaking engagements, podcast appearances, and writing, I’m working to spread a message that needs to be heard: aging well isn’t luck. It’s a learnable skill. Everyone deserves to know just how much control they have over their health span.

Future offerings will include group coaching for menopause, an alumni community for ongoing support, and digital resources to reach more people ready to redefine their aging process.

My philosophy

I approach every relationship with kindness, patience, and genuine curiosity about your unique situation. I use every piece of information you share to spot patterns you might have missed. We make decisions based on evidence, but we implement them in ways that honor your life, your preferences, and your reality.

This isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress. It’s about building a version of your life where you feel strong, clear, and capable for decades to come.

Because if your health isn’t worth your time and resources, nothing else is.
